Lew was able to get in to see the psychologist on 16 May. The psychologist plotted a series of more or less weekly meetings to take the history and design a treatment program. Perhaps because the psychologist trained under George Wolpe, he decided to use a flooding technique (which gave Lew something new to be anxious about). However, when the recording was finally made and Lew used it for the first time, it became obvious that it was not going to make him as uncomfortable as he originally feared. Indeed, after just a few sessions the recording actually relaxed him!
Bobbi had committed herself to preaching at Xenia's First Lutheran Church today. Since the first service began at 8 AM, it would have been a hardship for Bobbi to get up early enough to drive over an hour to be there on time. So this became another excuse for a family outing. After mass yesterday we quickly hitched up the Airstream and arrived at Xenia just a few minutes before 8 PM, the agreed upon meeting time. However, there was no one there to meet us. We parked in the usual spot and plugged into the grid at the usual socket -- but since all the doors were locked, there was no way for us to use the rest rooms. Fortunately a phone call corrected the misunderstanding, and we dug the key out of its hiding place. So we walked the dogs and went to bed.
The next morning Bobbi was able to roll out of bed and don her clergy uniform just in time, while Lew remained in bed. He rolled out about an hour later and walked the dogs, then sat around updating files until Bobbi finished at nearly noon. She changed into more comfortable clothes and we pulled out, arrived back at Osborn Drive before 3, and parked without incident. Lew was a prisoner in Columbus again, but it was more bearable because of the two successful outings and the prospect of spending July and August in northern Michigan.
