So we are on the road again, and Lew is dogsitting in his beloved Airstream, while Bobbi is sitting in a presentation that Scott already has warned her she will not enjoy (boring). It is just one year to the day since we were here last.
Three weeks in suburbia -- longer than Lew would like, but a big improvement over four months. But it was more than long enough to remind us why he dislikes it so. As soon as Bobbi started back to work, life became a long uninterrupted string of crises -- most courtesy of our two youngest (is 28 and 29 young???). No sooner would one crisis be diverted to a siding than at least one more appeared to replace it. So it was three weeks of tension, three weeks without a schedule (except for mass and the employment we had committed to), three weeks in which we got essentially nothing done and made no progress on the "ToDo" list. And traffic? Trapped in gridlock more than once. In short, the four of us really need this break -- already. At times, even the most boring lectures can be a relief.
The campground at Deer Creek SP (we have described it in past years) is both a relief and a disappointment. Relief because of its familiarity, relief because we have the campground almost entirely to ourselves, relief because it is dry today and not rainy. Disappointment because instead of rainy we have HOT, disappointment because in another 48 hours we will be back in suburbia. Most of all we are disappointed that the repairs which closed down the campground for all of last winter appear to have been minimal. There are some new outlet boxes, some new posts with the numbers for each lot. But the interior roads and RV pads remain cracked and disintegrating, the bathrooms fairly clean but in need of repairs (new doors to replace the ones that have rusted through, caulking and painting, etc.). Clearly, the repairs were not a big budget item; but considering the state of medical care for the poor in this state, that certainly would have been the moral choice.
