Another 2 weeks of frittering. The end is not in sight.
This time the hold up is the black cat. The biopsy came back positive for helicobacter pylori -- the same bug that causes ulcers in humans (I always enjoy it when we share). Turns out the treatment is exactly the same. So twice a day we try to encourage a large strong cat with firm opinions that he really ought to take his medicines. So far we have succeeded, but just barely. But like most animals he is very forgiving -- let him up and he is our friend again, sticking to us like a puppy dog, lying next to us when we sit down. Definitely a lover, not a fighter. Of course we have to feed him his special diet by hand -- otherwise the little bitty calico steals it (like most calicoes, she is very domineering). The treatment for h. pylori is protracted, so we still have a couple of more weeks.
Smokey is not without his problems either. He continues to develop skin infections if we relax our precautions for even a day. So while we are waiting for Lucky to finish his meds, the vet has persuaded us to give him medicated baths twice a week. We shall see what we shall see.
Other than terminal boredom on my part, we are basically OK. I still have a very temperamental back, Bobbi still attends Al-anon several times a week, Paul remains sober. But we all are holding in.
