Copper Harbor, MI

Did we say "cold"? Last night we ran the heater all night and slept under the comforter again. In the morning it was not quite so cold as yesterday, but cold enough so that the temperature within the Airstream was no more than 70. Even at 4 PM the outside temperature did not rise to 70 -- taking a shower at that time was a test of "macho". Summer definately is over in Copper Harbor -- the leaves on some maple trees already have been turning a brilliant red for at least two weeks. After Labor Day, the owner of the Berry Patch will pull out and head for Connecticut. The DNR already started laying off the temporary workers they hired for the season. 4th of July to mid-August: that is what passes for summer by the shores of Gitche-Gummi. We do not expect to see 70 again this year.
