OK, as promised:
Lew went to surgery shortly after noon on the 26th, woke up a few hours later with an impressive registration amnesia. (He asked for it.) The urologist had snaked his scope up and around and photographed the stone (I am offering 8x10 glossies to all who want them), zapped it with the laser, snared the pieces down, and put a temporary stent in their place.
The surgery turned out to be more traumatic than expected: first of all, it did not end the crampy pain - that continued up untl the time Bobbi bought Lew some pyridium. Secondly, Lew's (unrelated) back pain continued. Thirdly, the opiate Lew received constipated him completely (also painful).
The stent is scheduled to come out on the 4th. This time we will expect the worst, so that anything less will be gravy.
